FRISCO, TEXAS – On an unseasonably cold night in North Texas, the Frisco RoughRiders won 3-1 against the San Antonio Missions Thursday evening at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Missions managed just one hit versus the ‘Riders’ pitching staff.

Throughout the night, temperatures hovered in the low-40s with a low-30s wind chill and gusts of up to 35 miles per hour. Both teams had a slow start offensively in the fall-like weather, going scoreless in the first four innings.

Randy Henry took over for Ryan Rodebaugh in the fourth after the spot-starter’s three scoreless innings. Jeudy Valdez led off the fifth with a walk and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Buschini. With Reymond Fuentes batting, Valdez stole third. Fuentes then reached on an error by shortstop Hanser Alberto and Valdez scored from third to put the Missions (14-13) up 1-0.

The RoughRiders (15-12) didn’t wait long to answer, taking advantage of multiple blunders by San Antonio in the fifth. Guilder Rodriguez singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch by Jose De Paula. Alejandro Selen then reached first on a fielding error by Valdez. With Rodriguez running on the pitch, Teodoro Martinez singled to right field and Rodriguez scored to tie the game at one apiece. Later in the

frame, the ‘Riders took the lead 2-1 on a single by Alberto to bring Selen home.

In the eighth, Jared Hoying reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on a fielder’s choice to get into scoring position. Tomas Telis followed with an RBI double to score the insurance run for the ‘Riders, extending the lead to the 3-1 final score.

Henry (1-0) pitched four innings, struck out three and gave up one run to earn the win, while De Paula (1-3) suffered the defeat. Roman Mendez was credited with his first save of the season after striking out two in the ninth.
