RoughRiders fall to NW Arkansas

FRISCO, TEXAS – Despite a good outing from Yu Darvish and four home runs, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, came up short in a furious late-inning comeback, falling 8-6 in 10 innings against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Sunday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Darvish threw 72 pitches in the second start of his current Major League rehabilitation assignment, his fifth start with Frisco this season. He allowed three earned runs on six hits, one walk, and struck out five. The Naturals plated their runs against him on a sacrifice fly in the first and a two-run home run from Mauricio Ramos in the fourth.

Frisco (43-43 overall, 5-12 second half) scored five of its six runs on home runs. Lewis Brinson, Preston Beck, Alex Burg, and Ryan Cordell all went deep, bringing the Riders home run total to seven in the first two games of this series. The first three long balls came off Northwest Arkansas starter Matt Strahm, who allowed seven hits over five innings, and Cordell’s homer came off Eric Stout (3-3), who worked the final three innings to pick up the win. It was the first time the Riders hit four homers in a game since May 16, 2015.

Despite trailing 6-3 going into the ninth, the Naturals (39-48, 10-7) tied the game on a three-run homer from Logan Moon. Moon’s blast came against Luke Jackson, who worked a scoreless eighth inning before walking two and surrendering the homer an inning later.

The Naturals (39-48, 10-7) scored the decisive runs in the top of the 10th. A fielder’s choice, along with a missed catch error by Andy Ibanez allowed two runs to score against Ryan Ledbetter, who took the loss (0-2).

The two teams will face off for the rubber match of the series Monday at 12:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
