SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The season-long losing streak extended to six games for the Frisco RoughRiders, as they fell 2-1 in ten innings to the San Antonio Missions at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium on Saturday night. The ‘Riders scored first to capture their first lead since Sunday but lost it on a walk-off double by Johan Limonta in the tenth. Frisco last loss six consecutive games August 6-12, 2010.

Both starters were excellent on Saturday. The Missions’ Donn Roach threw just five innings but allowed only one base hit and a lone walk. The RoughRiders (13-23, 52-54) managed just one man in scoring position before he left the ballgame.

Arlett Mavare was even better in the game’s first six innings. He surrendered just two baserunners, a leadoff single in the first and a hit batter to begin the third. Otherwise he was perfect, completing the sixth with 11 men set down in a row.

The ‘Riders struck first in the seventh. With Roach’s night complete after five, the Missions (22-14, 60-45) sent their second reliever to the mound, former big league Clay Zavada. He allowed a leadoff walk to Chih-Hsien Chiang. Teodoro Martinez successfully moved him down to scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, but it was unneeded. The next

batter, Odubel Herrera, slammed a triple to right field, scoring Chiang for the game’s first run. Herrera drove home Chiang the previous night for the team’s only run, which ended the ‘Riders 38 inning scoreless streak.

The lead was short-lived. In the bottom half of the inning, Mavare, who tied a career-high with seven innings pitched, allowed a solo home run to Tommy Medica that tied the ballgame.

The ‘Riders went down in order in the eighth, ninth, and tenth, and brought on Joe Van Meter to pitch the bottom of the tenth inning. He walked Medica, the first man he faced, and on a 3-2 pitch, Limonta ended the game with an RBI double to left field that got past a diving Ryan Strausborger.

Van Meter (0-2), who did not record an out, suffered the defeat. Reliever Jeremy McBryde (4-3) pitched a perfect tenth inning for the win.

The RoughRiders and Missions finish their four-game series on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. in San Antonio. Colby Lewis (0-1, 10.13 ERA) makes his fourth rehab start for the RougRiders, and will face off against Eddie Bonine (1-2, 3.94 ERA). Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 5:40.
