Both runs came off Hooks starter Vince Velasquez who lasted four innings but struck out six. The Riders struck out 14 times as a team.

Tied through six innings, the Hooks regained the lead thanks to a double steal. With runners on the corners, Tony Kemp broke for second and when Jorge Alfaro threw down, Teoscar Hernandez took off for home scoring the go-ahead run. Leading 3-2, the Hooks added an insurance run in the ninth inning thanks to another stolen base by Kemp. Kemp swiped second, and Alfaro feigned a throw before launching a ball to third base that hit off the helmet of Heras before ricocheting into shallow left field. Heras scored, and the Hooks had a commanding 4-2 lead.

After a leadoff walk to Joey Gallo, Jandel Gustave relieved West and recorded two strikeouts to earn his third save.
