RoughRiders Lose To Corpus Christi

FRISCO, TEXAS – The fifth largest crowd in Dr Pepper Ballpark watched a wild one as the RoughRiders fell 15-14 to Corpus Christi on Saturday night. Josh Hamilton started in center field for the Riders as he continues his rehab from shoulder surgery and delivered with four runs scored on four hits and added an RBI. He was one of five Riders with a multi-hit game.

Saturday night’s crowd of 11,632 marked the fifth largest crowd in team history. Three of the five largest crowds to watch a game at Dr Pepper Ballpark have come during the 2015 season.

Joey Gallo planted his fourth home run of the season to deep center field to give Frisco a 7-5 lead in the fifth inning. Nick Williams hit a pair of home runs in the game, his first tying the game at three in the second inning and later belting a three run bomb in the sixth to cut the Hooks lead to 11-10.

The fifth and sixth innings were wild as the teams combined to score eight runs apiece that saw three different lead changes. The Hooks tied the game at five in the top of the fifth with a pair of two out RBI from Conrad Gregor and Telvin Nash before Gallo’s blast put the Riders back ahead, 7-5.

Corpus notched six runs on five hits in the top of the six, capped by a

two run triple from Andrew Aplin and a Tyler White two run home run. Trailing 11-7, the Riders responded with a six-run sixth inning of their own. Frisco sent 10 hitters to the dish and led 13-11.

Tony Kemp’s two out single in the seventh scored Leo Heres before Gregor tied the game in the eighth with a RBI single to right scoring Alpin. Alpin finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored, three RBI, a walk and a sacrifice that set up the go-ahead score in the 12th inning.

Cody Ege walked Jio Mier to begin the twelfth inning who would later score when Williams’ throw from left bounced off catcher Jorge Alfaro and up the first base line. Leading 14-13, the Hooks added a pivotal insurance run on a two out RBI single by Nash.

Nomar Mazara added a RBI single in the twelfth, but the Riders stranded a pair of runners against Jandel Gustave, who recorded his fifth save.

Jose Leclerc (1-1) opposes Josh Hader (1-1) on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Josh Hamilton is expected to continue his rehab assignment with Frisco.
