RoughRiders Shut Out Midland

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders shut out the Midland RockHounds 4-0 Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark to win the first game of their series.

Scoreless in the bottom of the third, Odubel Herrera singled to right center. Brett Nicholas followed, slamming his ninth home run of the season to deep center, putting the ‘Riders (20-17) on the board 2-0.

Frisco extended their lead in the seventh with a lead off solo blast to right field by Chih-Hsien Chiang. With runners on the corners later in the frame, a double by Nicholas brought Guilder Rodriguez home from third to put the ‘Riders up 4-0.

Midland (17-20) couldn’t put things together offensively, though they did field a strong defense early in the game. Zach Neal pitched 6 innings and struck out five for the ‘Hounds, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits.

Going 1-4 tonight, Tomas Telis continued his hitting streak to nine games, tying the longest streak of any RoughRider this season.

Tyler Tufts (1-0) earned his first win of the season, pitching five scoreless innings. Neal (3-1) suffered the loss.

The RoughRiders continue their series with the Midland RockHounds on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
