RoughRiders Split Doubleheader

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders and the San Antonio Missions split their doubleheader Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The ‘Riders took the first game 4-3 in a nine-inning battle, and the Missions won the second 6-4. Rangers’ rehabbers Craig Gentry and Jeff Baker played both contests, and Colby Lewis started the game two.

The Missions (16-10, 54-41) got things started in game one, in the first off a sac fly by Tommy Medica. Adam Buschini knocked a solo shot over the left fence in the second to extend the lead 2-0. The RoughRiders (11-15, 50-46) were silent through six innings. With one out in the seventh, Brett Nicholas singled and then Alex Buchholz knocked a two-run homer to tie the game.

In the eighth, Everett Williams reached base on a throwing error and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Rocky Gale knocked a sac fly to center to give the Missions a 3-2 lead. Zach Zaneski tied the game back up, however, with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the eighth. Frisco came out with the 4-3 victory in the ninth with a walk off homer by Buchholz

Richard Bleier (2-4) allowed one run in two innings to earn the victory, while

Matt Branham (2-1) came on in the ninth and allowed the winning run to suffer the loss.

In the second game, San Antonio scored two runs in the first off a double by Robert Kral. The RoughRiders responded in the second with a single to shallow center by Tomas Telis to bring Buchholz home from second. Kral slammed a two-run homer off Colby Lewis , extending the Missions lead 4-1 in the third.

Craig Gentry doubled to left in the third, and then Ryan Strausborger knocked an RBI single to score the run. Brett Nicholas then knocked a two-run homer just shy of the pool zone in left field to tie the game at four. San Antonio broke the tie in the fourth off a triple by Buschini that brought Everett Williams home from third. Buschini later scored on a throwing error by Odubel Herrera to put the Missions up 6-4, which was the final score.

Rangers rehabbing pitcher Colby Lewis allowed four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings with one strikeout. Center fielder Craig Gentry went three-for-eight between the two games with two singles and a double and three strikeouts. Infielder Jeff Baker went two-for-eight with three strikeouts between the two games.

Josh Greer (6-3) allowed four runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in five innings to earn the win. Jimmy Reyes (1-3) pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on two hits to suffer the loss. Jeremy McBryde came on in the seventh to earn his fourth save.

The ‘Riders travel back to Corpus Christi to face the Hooks Thursday at Whataburger Field at 7:05 p.m. Neil Ramirez (9-3, 3.33 ERA) will make the start for the RoughRiders against Missions right hander Mike Folynewwicz (4-1, 2.39 ERA).
