RoughRiders Win 3rd In A Row

FRISCO, TEXAS  – The Frisco RoughRiders beat the Corpus Christi Hooks in a back-and-forth contest Friday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The win extended the ‘Riders winning streak to three games.

Erik Castro led off the second with a double to right, and later in the frame, Michael Burgess doubled down the first-base line, putting the Hooks (1-3, 43-31) up 1-0.

Tomas Telis led off the second with a double to right, and then Hooks starter Nick Tropeano gave up two walks to Odubel Herrera and Ryan Strausborger to load the bases. Hanser Alberto then knocked a two-run double to the left corner to put the ‘Riders (3-1, 42-32) up 2-1.

Enrique Hernandez led off the third with a single to left, and then Rene Garcia singled left to move Hernandez to third. George Springer then knocked an RBI single to tie the game at two.

With two outs in the third, Tomas Telis knocked his second double of the night to left. Chih-Hsien Chiang then hit a single RBI as Frisco retook the lead, 3-2.

Burgess led off the fourth with an infield bunt single, and Raoul Torrez hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Burgess to second. Drew Muren slammed an RBI single left, and then Garcia singled to bring Muren home as the Hooks took a 4-3 lead.

In the fifth, Teodoro Martinez singled to left center and Guilder Rodriguez singled right. Brett Nicholas then slammed a home run over the right fence, giving Frisco a 6-4 lead.

Torrez hammered a solo home run in the sixth with one out, cutting the

RoughRiders lead 6-5, which became the final score..

In his first game at the Double-A level coming from Low-A Hickory, newcomer Alex Claudio pitched 1.2 innings, striking out three and allowed just one hit.

Kevin Pucetas (8-6) went five innings and allowed four runs on ten hits, striking out three to earn the victory. Tropeano pitched four innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out one to suffer the loss. Justin Miller pitched a hitless ninth to be credited with his second save.

The ‘Riders continue their series against the Corpus Christi Hooks Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Nick McBride (1-2, 6.50 ERA) makes the start for the ‘Riders. The Hooks will counter with Jorge De Leon (0-1, 5.19 ERA).
