RoughRiders Win In 13 Innings

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders came back from down four runs to defeat the Tulsa Drillers 6-5 Friday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. In his first start at Dr Pepper Ballpark, Nick Martinez struck out seven batters.
Tim Smalling and Delta Cleary Jr. both singled to lead off the third and advanced on a sac bunt by Tyler Kuhn. Jayson Langfels then grounded out to a fielder’s choice to score the run. Kyle Parker reached base and Cleary Jr. advanced to third on an error by Ryan Rua, and then Kiel Roling walked to load the bases. Dustin Garneau singled to shallow center, extending the Drillers (27-27, 61-61) lead 3-0.
In the bottom of the third, Teodoro Martinez singled left, Ryan Strausborger walked and Luis Sardinas got hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Rougned Odor grounded to a fielder’s choice to bring Martinez home as the RoughRiders (21-33, 60-64) cut the lead 3-1.
Tulsa added two runs in the eighth off an error by Odor, extending their lead 5-1.
In the ninth, Rua led off with a walk, Tomas Telis singled center, and Martinez reached first on
an error by Parker, loading the bases. Strausborger then singled right, scoring two runs. Sardinas then knocked a single to left, scoring another run. Odor reached first on an error by Parker, loading the bases. With two outs, Chih-Hsien Chiang walked, scoring the tying run at five, taking the game into extra innings.
Luis Sardinas led off the 13th with a double to left field. Odor then singled in the run for the 6-5 walk off victory.
Alex Claudio (1-1) pitched three innings of one-hit baseball with one strikeout to earn the win, while Kenny Roberts (1-1) allowed one run on two hits in one inning to suffer the defeat.
The ‘Riders continue their series with the Tulsa Drillers Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark at 7:05. Jerad Eikhoff (0-1, 6.55 ERA) will make the start for the RoughRiders against Tulsa’s Daniel Winkler (1-0, 3.38 ERA).
