RoughRiders Win With Walk-Off

FRISCO, TEXAS -The Frisco RoughRiders defeated the Corpus Christi Hooks 10-6 off a grand slam walk-off by Ryan Rua. Luis Sardinas knocked his first Double-A homer, and the ‘Riders extend their winning streak to three games.

The Hooks (38-27, 80-55) quickly got on the board, taking a three-run lead in the first. Leonardo Heras led off with a walk and then Enrique Hernandez fired a two-run shot to right field. Erik Castro followed with a solo homer.

Frisco (28-37, 67-68) responded in the bottom of the frame. Rougned Odor singled to right field with one out and then Kalian Sams hammered a two-run shot over the left field fence, cutting the Corpus lead 3-2.

Drew Muren led off the second with a double to right and Ryan McCurdy knocked a sac bunt to advance the runner to third. Later, Ronny Torreyes hit a single RBI to right field, extending the Corpus Christi lead 4-2.

In the bottom of the second, Ryan Strausborger got hit by the pitch, Guilder Rodriguez walked, and then Luis Sardinas slammed his first Double-A home run, giving the ‘Riders their first lead of the night, 5-4.

Leading off the third, Castro singled and then Domingo Santana fired a homer over

the left fence, giving the Hooks a 6-5 lead.

The scoring stalled until the eighth. Rua led off with a single, Teodoro Martinez got hit by the pitch and Strausborger walked, loading the bases. Sardinas reached first on an error by Torreyes, scoring the run and tying the game at six.

In the ninth, Sams singled, Brett Nicholas walked and Joe Benson got hit by the pitch to load the bases. On the first pitch, Rua rocketed a grand slam out of the park for the 10-6 walk-off victory.

Randy Henry (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two for the victory. Matt Heidenreich (4-5) allowed five runs off four hits in two innings to suffer the defeat.

The ‘Riders continue their series with the Corpus Christi Hooks Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Arlett Mavare (3-3, 5.34 ERA) will make the start for the RoughRiders. The Hooks will counter with Ruben Alaniz (7-9, 4.76 ERA).
