Round of 16 is set at Wimbledon

The final 16 men and women are set going in to the traditional middle Sunday day off at Wimbledon.

There were no surprises on the Men’s side today as matches went according to rank.  No. 2 Rafael Nadal needed 5 sets to overcome Philipp Petzschner.  Andy Murray (4) cruised past Gilles Simon, Robin Soderling (6) defeated Thomaz Bellucci, David Ferrer (9) beat Jeremy Chardy, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (10) won against Tobias Kamke.

Also advancing were American Sam Querrey (18), Julien Benneteau (32), and unseeded Paul-Henri Mathieu.

In the Ladies draw, Serena Williams (1), Caroline Wozniacki (3), Agnieszka Radwanska (7), and Na Li (9) all won.  The upsets were Flavia Pennetta (10), losing to Klara Zakopalova, Victoria Azarenka (14) falling to Petra Kvitova, and Alexandra Dulgheru (31) ousted by Kaia Kanepi.

Maria Sharapova (16) also advanced to the round of 16 with a victory over Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

Matches resume Monday after the day of rest with all 32 remaining players on court.
