Rybarikova wins 2011 Cellular South Cup

MEMPHIS, TN – Magdalena Rybarikova won her 2nd WTA tournament title with a victory in Memphis at the Cellular South Cup.  Rybarikova, who had to fight for 3 sets in 3 of her matches this week, had a easy final, winning over No. 6 seed Rebecca Marino, who retired with an abdominal strain after losing the opening set 6-2.

Beginning with her opening match against American Vania King, the No. 8 seed, Rybarikova showed her determination and resolve with a 3rd set tiebreak win.  From there, she would struggle to defeat Anne Keothavong before easily beating another American, Alexa Glatch.  Rybarikova went the distance in her semifinal win over Lucie Hradecka before meeting Marino in the final.

Marino, the only seeded player to advance into the quarterfinals, first hurt her abdomen in her semifinal match against Evgeniya Rodina.  She went on to claim the 3-set victory over Rodina, but was clearly uncomfortable to play in the final.  After confering with the trainer at the end of the set, Marino decided to withdraw from the match.

In the doubles competition, the team of Olga Govortsova and Alla Kudryavtseva earned their 1st WTA title together by defeating Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.
