SMU Basketball Wins In Overtime At UALR

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – London Giles scored a career-high 19 points, including one of SMU’s three 3-pointers in overtime, as the Mustangs beat Arkansas-Little Rock 69-63 on Sunday.

Giles’ 3-pointer with 2:48 left in OT put SMU ahead for good, 59-58, and Robert Nyakundi added two more 3-pointers for the Mustangs, who didn’t miss a shot from the field in the overtime period.

Nyakundi finished with 15 points, including nine in overtime. Jeremiah Samarrippas added 12 points and six assists for SMU (5-3).

D’Andre Williams scored 21 and Will Neighbour 15 for Little Rock (2-6), which lost its fifth straight game. The Trojans scored the final five points of regulation – on a 3-pointer by Neighbour and a jumper by Williams with 1:07 left – to force the extra period.

Little Rock used a 17-0 run in the early going to take a 19-5 lead, and was up 30-24 at halftime. But Williams hit two 3-pointers early in the second half to spark an 11-0 run that put SMU back on top 35-32.

The 14-point comeback ties for the eighth-largest in SMU history, but is only secon this year. The Mustangs overcame a 17-point deficit to beat Florida Gulf Coast 65-64 on Nov. 19.

The Mustangs next game is Dec. 15 against Jackson State in the inaugural Dallas Classic help at Ellis Davis Fieldhouse.
