SMU Become Bowl-Eligible With Homecoming Win

SMU became bowl-eligible for the 3rd straight year with a 45-24 victory over Tulane on Saturday at Gerald J. Ford stadium.  The Mustangs have won 10 of the past 11 conference home games.

Zach Line had 143 yards rushing on 25 carries.  Line has 1089 yards on the season.  He becomes the 5th SMU player to have multiple 1000-yard seasons.  Line scored 3 rushing touchdowns to give him 17 on the season, behind only Eric Dickerson (19) for the most in team history.

Quarterback J.J. McDermott passed for 322 yards, his 4th 300-yard game of the season.  His 3 TD passes give him 11 on the season.  McDermott had a career-high 29 completions on 40 attempts.  

Darius Johnson led the Mustang receivers with 7 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.  Terrance Wilkerson also caught 7 for 44 yards and a TD.  Der’rikk Thompson caught 6 for 72 yards and a touchdown.  Cole Beasley also added 6 catches for 62 yards, all in the 2nd half.

SMU has scored 38 or more points in 5 games this season, a first for the school.  The team is 4-0 at home this season for the first time since 2006.

The Mustangs will host Navy next week at 2:30pm.
