SMU M-Tennis Edged By No. 27 Tulsa

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men’s tennis team was edged by Tulsa 4-3 on Thursday at the Turpin Tennis Center. With the loss, SMU moves to 3-5 on the season.

In doubles play, Tobias Flood and Joseph Hattrup were first to finish, downing Grant Ive and Alastair Barnes 8-2. Tulsa won the second match as the No. 22 pairing of Ashley Watling and Clifford Marsland narrowly defeated Artem Baradach and Gaston Cuadranti 8-6 in the No. 1 spot. The Mustangs earned the doubles point as the duo of Robert Sajovich andAdham el-Effendi beat Japie De Klerk and Rusty Turpin 8-5.

Tulsa’s Ive opened singles play as he was first off the courts, defeating Cuadranti 6-2, 6-3. el-Effendi was second to finish, beating Barnes 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.

Next off the courts was No. 49 Artem Baradach, who defeated No. 97 Marsland 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. Baradach now holds a 7-1 on the year.

Tulsa won the final three singles matches to defeat the Mustangs 4-3. Tristan Jackson downed Flood 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, while Costa lost to No. 117 Ashley Watling 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). No. 117 Japie De Klerk defeated Brian Griffin 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) to earn the final point for the Golden Hurricane.

SMU hosts UTSA tomorrow at noon and Memphis on Sunday at noon at the Turpin Tennis Center.
