SMU Soccer Players Earn National Recognition

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU men’s soccer players Arthur Ivo and Diogo de Almeida have received national recognition after helping lead the Mustangs to the Conference USA Tournament title this past week. The Mustangs went 3-0, defeating No. 4 seed Marshall, No. 1 seed South Carolina and No. 2 seed UAB en route to the team’s first tournament championship since 2006.

Ivo was named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week after recording a hat trick in SMU’s 4-3 quarterfinal win over Marshall and assisting on both Mustang tallies in the 2-0 shutout of No. 17 UAB in the championship. The midfielder was named the Offensive MVP of the tournament for his performance.

de Almeida was named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week. The defender helped the Mustangs post back-to-back shutouts in the semifinals (1-0 against South Carolina) and the finals (2-0 against No. 17 UAB). For his efforts, de Almeida was named the Defensive MVP of the tournament.
