SMU Swimmers Lose To LSU

DALLAS (SMU) – Devin Burnett continued his strong sophomore campaign with wins in the one- and three-meters dives as SMU was defeated by No. 19 LSU, 161-139, Saturday afternoon at Perkins Natatorium. In the three-meter dive, Burnett destroyed the competition with a score of 372.38, taking first place by more than 50 points. Burnett totaled 344.85 points in the one-meter dive, just 0.53 points ahead of second place. Fellow sophomore Hayden Hodges claimed third with a score of 310.88.

SMU opened the meet with a dominating win in the 400-yard medley relay. Matas Andriekus, Matthew Napier-Jameson, David Larsson and Mindaugas Sadauskas finished the event with a time of 3:19.40. The Ponies also had a solid victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Larsson, Matt Roney, Sadauskas and Ryan Koops combined for a mark of 3:01.53.

In addition to his wins in the relays, Sadauskas posted two individual first-place finishes. The sprint free-specialist won the 50-yard event in a time of 20.29 and clocked in at 44.60 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Larsson won the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 48.32.

The Mustangs went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle as Nicolai Hansen placed first (1:41.70), just ahead of Roney (1:42.13).

Andriekus earned a pair of runner-up honors in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, finishing in 51.46 and 1:52.62, respectively.

Mike Smith (200-yard butterfly, 1:52.59) and Eastman Holloway (500-yard freestyle, 4:42.32) also had second-place swims for SMU.

The Mustangs host The Classic at SMU at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at Perkins Natatorium.
