SMU Tennis Beats Trinity

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU took five of six possible singles points to beat Trinity (TX) 5-2 at the Samuell Grand Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

Trinity (TX) earned the doubles point to start the match with victories at the second and third positions. Arturs Kazijevs andMischa Nowicki won their seventh straight doubles match, 8-6, to improve their season record to 11-4. The pair is currently ranked 70th in the nation.

SMU (9-9) took singles victories in positions 1-5, including three two-set victories. Kazijevs won 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot to improve his record to 12-5. Gaston Cuadranti won 7-5, 6-1 at the second position to get his fifth win of the spring. Freshman Eduardo Razzeto picked up the third Mustangs victory in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.

The Mustangs had to come from behind to win their other two singles matches. Pablo Perez-Esnaola won at the third spot 6-7, 6-3, (10-4) to pick up his fourth victory of the season, while Nowicki won 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the fourth position to win his seventh straight decision. Nate Lammons fell at the No. 6 position in a three-set thriller, 3-6, 7-6, (13-11).

SMU’s next opponent is Rice on Sunday. The match in Houston is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
