SMU Tennis Defeats Illinois-Chicago

CHICAGO (SMU) – The SMU Mustangs continued their hot streak as they defeated the Illinois-Chicago Flames 6-1 at the Hinsdale Racquet Club on Wednesday afternoon.

SMU (8-7) has now won four straight matches, five of its last six and eight of its last 11 overall. The Mustangs entered the ITA national rankings at 65th on Tuesday after winning three matches in three days last week.

SMU swept the doubles matches against UIC, improving the team’s doubles record to 22-14 on the season. The Mustangs’ 75th-ranked doubles duo of Arturs Kazijevs and Mischa Nowicki won 8-5, and Gaston Cuadranti teamed with Alex Sanders to win 8-2. Both pairs have now won their last four decisions.

Kezijevs, Cuadranti, Sanders, Eduardo Razzeto and Nate Lammons all won their singles matches in straight sets. Kazijevs, who is ranked 124th nationally, improved his record to 10-4 and has won his last six decisions. Cuadranti has won four consecutive matches.

The Mustangs’ next match is Friday at 3 p.m. CT at No. 31 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are 12-7 on the season and 5-3 when playing at home.
