SMU Tennis Sweeps Tulane, 4-0

NEW ORLEANS (SMU) – The SMU men’s tennis team made quick work of their road contest at Tulane this afternoon, not surrendering a set to the host. The 4-0 victory helped the Mustangs improve to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in Conference USA action, while the Green Wave fall to 8-7 on the year and 2-3 in the conference.

Mischa Nowicki and Joseph Hattrup started the Mustangs off on the right foot with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Arturs Kazijevs and Tobias Flood earned SMU the doubles point with an 8-6 win at No. 2.

Kazijevs started off singles play by adding to his team-leading win total with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 3 flight over Joe Young. It was the freshman’s ninth singles win of the season and sixth in a row.

Nowicki followed up with a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set victory over Iain Sneddon at No. 4 to push the lead to 3-0. Pablo Perez-Esnaola finished off the Green Wave, scoring the match’s final point by defeating Shaye Wali, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2.

SMU continues this weekend’s road trip on Sunday as the squad takes on No. 22 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
