SMU Track Wraps Up Mean Green And Stanford Invitationals

DENTON, Texas (SMU) — The No. 20 SMU track and field team excelled in distance, sprints and throws at the Mean Green Invitational and Stanford Invitational this weekend.

SMU dominated the throwing events at the Mean Green Invitational with three first place finishers. Simone du Toit, a recently named 2011 USTFCCCA Indoor All-American and top thrower in the country, earned wins in both the shot put and discus events. The junior posted winning throws of 16.61m and 55.12m in the shot put and discus respectively. Ayla Gill, who last week was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week, won the hammer throw with a 55.45 meter mark. Lisa Egarter posted first place in the javelin throw with a 41.32 meter mark.

Also competing in the North Texas hosted event, Amber Evans set a school record with an 11.62 finish in the 100 meter dash. In addition to the record time, Evans also notched first place in the 200 meter dash with a 23.71 mark. The Mustangs also notched high-performances in the jumps as Viktoria Leks (1.75 meters) placed first in the high jump and Lisa Garter captured second in the long jump with a 5.92 meter leap.

At the two-day Stanford Invitational, Klara Bodinson posted a new personal best with a 10:16.36 time in the 3000 meter steeplechase and won her heat. Silje Fjortoft ran a strong 10:20.25 in the same event. Also setting a personal-best, Mary Alenbratt recorded a 4:23.60 time in the 1500 meter and was the top finisher of the competing collegiate runners. On the second day of competition, Alenbratt (first in heat) and Lovisa Lindh each turned in 2:09 finishes in the 800 meter run.

Next weekend the Mustangs compete in the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
