GREENVILLE, N.C. (SMU) – The SMU Mustangs and East Carolina Pirates fought to a scoreless draw at the ECU Soccer Stadium in Greenville, N.C. on Friday night.

SMU is now 6-6-3 (2-2-3 C-USA) on the season. East Carolina, who could have moved into first place in the Conference USA with a win, is now 8-5-2 (4-1-2 C-USA) in 2012.

Mallory Baum had an opportunity to give SMU the win in the 104th minute during the first overtime period when her shot went off the crossbar. Rachael Larson had a great opportunity to score in the first half, when her shot went high over the goal from about four yards out.

“We attacked the ball well,” Head Coach Chris Petrucelli said of his team’s offensive effort. “I thought we dominated territory and possession. We were really kind of unlucky to not get a goal.”

ECU’s goalkeeper Christiane Cordero, who has won two of the last three C-USA Defensive Player of the Week awards, made numerous crucial stops, with six total saves. Lauryn Bodden had two saves and earned her third shutout of the year.

SMU continues play with a game at Marshall on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
