SMU W-Tennis Beats Troy

DALLAS (SMU) – Behind a strong showing in doubles and three straight set singles wins, the SMU women’s tennis team downed Troy, 4-1, Friday at the SMU Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs improve to 8-7 and boast a 25-13 doubles record in dual match season.

SMU jumped out to an early lead by winning all three doubles matches. Ana Perez-Lopez and Liza Buss partnered for the first time this season, picking up a 6-1 win at No. 2.

Karina Traxler and Sarai Monarrez Yesaki improved to 8-2 as a duo with their 6-2 win at the top spot, clinching the point. Tiffany Hollebeck and Nicole Petchey played out their match at No. 3 doubles, winning the final game for a 6-4 score.




The Mustangs continued their streak in singles. Ana Perez-Lopez picked up a quick 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, her ninth of the spring. Liza Buss followed with her own straight set win, a 6-2, 6-1 rout at No. 2.

SMU surrendered a point to the Trojans at the No. 5 spot, but quickly countered to clinch the match. Monarrez Yesaki earned the final point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 to improve to 7-7.

Next up for the Mustangs is a two-match road trip in New Orleans, where the team will take on Tulsa on March 23 and Tulane on March 25.
