SMU W-Tennis Defeats Texas State

DALLAS (SMU) – Freshman Macie Elliott won her second match in as many days as she defeated Texas State sophomore Katy Collins in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 6 singles match as the SMU women’s tennis team downed the Bobcats 7-0, in Dallas, on Friday afternoon. With the win, SMU improved to 8-11 and is now won 7-3 in its last 10 matches, while Texas State dropped to 8-8 with the loss.

The Mustangs quickly took the doubles point, with sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova and freshman Dasha Sharapova (14-4) winning 8-6 in the No. 1 spot and sophomore Hristina Dishkova and junior Holly Verner (11-4) winning 8-1 in the No. 2 position.

SMU then won all six singles matches with Elliott and Bulgakova’s coming in straight sets, while the Mustangs won the other four by default.

Bulgakova improved to 12-13 on the season as she beat Bobcat junior Monica Pieratt, 7-6, 6-2. Meanwhile, Sharapova, Dishkova, sophomore Yana Erkeeva and freshman Anna Kate Anderson all won by default at the No. 1, 3, 4 and 5 singles positions.

The Mustangs are back in action on Sunday as they play host to UTSA at the Northwood Country Club in Dallas at 12 p.m.
