DALLAS (SMU) — No. 56 Edyta Cieplucha, Elena Fayner and Ashley Turpin each earned a point for SMU women’s tennis in a 4-3 loss to Louisiana-Monroe at the Northwood Country Club on Sunday. Cieplucha improved to 9-3 in dual matches at No. 1 singles and is now 15-6 overall.

“I thought we competed well today and we showed toughness,” said head coach Kati Gyulai. “We put ourselves in a position to win, but we couldn’t close out the matches. UL-Monroe hung in there and credit to them for the win. We look to get a couple of good practices in before we travel to TCU in a few days.”

Fayner won her third straight match and sixth in the last eight as she improved to 6-6. Turpin is now 4-3 on the season and has won two straight matches for the first time this season.

The Mustangs visit No. 39 TCU on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
