SMU W-Tennis Top La Tech

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team (14-3) matched its win total from a season ago after a 4-3 victory against Louisiana Tech Sunday afternoon at Turpin Stadium.

The Mustangs won their fourth straight match while snapping the Lady Techsters three-match win streak.

SMU picked up the doubles point after recording wins on court one and two. In No. 2 doubles, Liza Buss and Macie Elliott defeated Sonia Chen and Jill van den Dungen, 6-0. Louisiana Tech’s Marta Sramkova and Nadja Manjon responded with a 6-1 win in No. 3 doubles against Mary Wright and Dasha Sharapova, who lost for the first time in duals this spring. However, SMU’s Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and Ana Perez-Lopez clinched the point for the Mustangs with a 6-2 victory in No. 1 doubles against Jazmin Britos and Alba Perny.

The Mustangs kept the pressure on the Lady Techsters jumping out to a 3-0 lead after recording wins in No. 4 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Charline Anselmo defeated Perny, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 4 singles and Sharpavoa picked up her 15th win of the season after a 7-6 (10-8), 6-0 victory in No. 2 singles against Manjon.

Louisiana Tech registered its first win on court three with Chen defeating Perez-Lopez, 6-4, 6-4, but the Mustangs clinched the match with Ellie Zogg recording a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win against Dungen in No. 6 singles.

SMU continues its homestand Saturday, April 1 against UT Arlington at the SMU Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
