SMU W-Tennis Tops Temple

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU cruised to a 7-0 win over American Athletic Conference foe Temple on Thursday afternoon, sweeping all six singles matches and earning the doubles point after winning at the No.1 and 2 doubles positions on their way to their third straight win. SMU is now 4-8 on the season and 1-1 in The American.

The Mustangs quickly took the doubles point, with sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova and freshman Dasha Sharapova (8-3) winning 8-2 in the No. 1 spot and sophomore Hristina Dishkova and junior Holly Verner (8-1) winning 8-4 in the second position.

SMU then won all six singles matches in straight sets, with only Bulgakova at the No. 1 spot going to a third frame. Bulgakova rebounded from a second set loss with a 7-6 victory in a close third set, to improve her overall record to 11-7 this season. Anderson (10-10) won her fourth straight match at the No. 6 spot, while Dishkova (15-10), Sharapova (12-8) sophomore Yana Erkeeva (13-7) and freshman Macie Elliott (10-12) cruised at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 positions to wins in straight sets, respectively.

SMU will look to continue its strong play as it spends next week in Florida competing against Penn State on March 11, No. 65 South Florida on March 12 and UCF on March 13. SMU will play both the Nittany Lions and the Bulls in Tampa while SMU will travel to Orlando to take on the Knights.
