SMU Women Fall 61-57 To Tulsa In Final Regular Season Game

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – The Mustangs stormed back in the final minutes, but Tulsa held on to claim a 61-57 victory over SMU on Thursday night in the final game of the regular season. Alisha Filmore hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left, but Taylor Hooker made it a four-point game at the free throw line to secure the win.

Christine Elliott and Alisha Filmore led the Mustangs (13-16, 6-10 Conference USA) with 14 points each, and Elliott grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Taleya Mayberry led Tulsa (13-14, 8-8 C-USA) with 19 points.

Raven Short hit a free throw to tie the game at 39-39 with 9:11 left, erasing a seven-point Tulsa lead. The Golden Hurricane stretched the lead back nine with 41 seconds left, 56-47, but the Mustangs continued to battle.

Alisha Filmore converted a three-point play with the free throw and Kristin Askew hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to pull the Mustangs within three, 56-53. Tulsa hit a pair of free throws and broke the press for four points, but SMU trailed 60-57 with 2.2 seconds left after Filmore hit a three with three seconds left. After missing the first of two free throws, Taylor Hooker sank the second to give Tulsa the four-point win, 61-57.

The Mustangs led 25-23 at halftime, taking advantage of a 21-15 advantage in rebounds. SMU grabbed 11 offensive rebounds for 12 second chance points in the first 20 minutes, while holding Tulsa to just three offensive boards. Christine Elliott had 10 points to lead SMU in the first half.

Tulsa shot 45.5 percent in the first half, but SMU held the Golden Hurricane to just 10 field goals, while the Mustangs made 11 for the advantage. Each team hit two free throws and a 3-pointer in the first half. SMU finished the game shooting 36.1 percent, while Tulsa shot 45.1 percent from the field.

The Mustangs open the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday against Marshall in Memphis, Tenn. The official bracket will be released Saturday.
