SMU Women Fall To USF

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s basketball team fell to No. 25 USF, 72-51, on Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum.

SMU (5-18, 1-11 The American) was led by Destynee Hives-McCray who posted 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, notching her fifth double-double of the season. Senior Raven Short also recorded 11 points, a new season high.

USF (20-4, 11-1 The American) used an early 10-0 run to build a lead and would carry a 37-22 advantage into halftime. The Bulls would carry that momentum into the second half, as they led by double digits for the remainder of the game.

Courtney Williams paced USF, tallying a game-high 21 points and adding nine rebounds. Shavontae Naylor contributed 11 points, while Alisia Jenkins and Shaleth Stringfield also reached double figures, adding 10 points apiece.

For the Mustangs, Alicia Froling scored six points and grabbed eight boards, while Taylor Brame added five points and seven rebounds off the bench.

SMU returns to the court for a 1 p.m. CT showdown with Tulsa on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Moody Coliseum.

Saturday’s contest will serve as the annual Pink Game. SMU will don pink uniforms, which will be auctioned off as part of a campaign to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. For tickets, visit SMUTickets.com.
