SMU Women Lose To East Carolina

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women’s basketball team fell to the East Carolina Pirates, 67-49, on Wednesday night at Moody Coliseum.

SMU (4-14, 0-7 The American) was led by Destynee Hives-McCray, who led the team in scoring for the second consecutive game with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Raven Short added nine points and a team-high three assists off the bench. Kiara Perry contributed eight points and Alicia Froling grabbed a team-high five rebounds and blocked two shots.

East Carolina (13-6, 4-4 The American) got out to an early lead and carried a 39-18 advantage into the break, despite shooting under 40 percent from the field in the opening half.

The Mustangs outscored East Carolina, 31-28, in the second half and held East Carolina to 36 percent shooting for the game.

Pirate forward Jada Payne led all scorers with 17 points and I’Tiana Taylor added 16 points and 10 rebounds.
