SMU Women Win 77-73 Thriller Over Tulane In Moody Coliseum

DALLAS (SMU) – Delisha Wills and Alisha Filmore each scored 18 points to lead SMU to a 77-73 victory over Tulane in Moody Coliseum Thursday night. With the win, SMU improved to 11-10, 4-4 in Conference USA, while Tulane fell to 17-5, 6-3 C-USA.

The game was tied three times in the final 1:04, but Filmore split the Green Wave defense with three seconds left to give SMU a two-point lead, 75-73. Olivia Grayson sprinted toward the basket for Tulane, but Haley Day forced her right into Samantha Mahnesmith at midcourt to draw the offensive foul. Mahnesmith hit the free throws with two seconds left to seal the win.

After one half of play, a half in which neither team led by more than five points, Tulane led 31-29, taking advantage of an SMU team that was shooting just 28.6-percent at the break. The Mustangs came out in the second half and shot 63.6-percent to take the win.

SMU finished the game shooting 42.1-percent (24-of-57), but scored most of its points at the free throw line, where the Mustangs went 26-of-28, matching the third-best percentage for a game in school history, 92.9-percent. Wills went 8-for-8 at the charity stripe and 5-of-7 from the field.

Tulane shot 45.6-percent from the field (26-of-57), but hit just 17-of-26 free throws. Roshaunda Barnes led the Green Wave with 20 points, and Danielle Nun added 19, but the SMU bench outscored Tulane’s bench 30-15.

The Mustangs’ next game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 6, at Rice. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m., and will air at 4 p.m. on CBS College Sports.
