SMU Women’s Tennis Beats Marshall

LAS VEGAS (SMU) — The No. 50 SMU women’s tennis team improved to 11-6 on the season with a 5-2 win against Marshall in Las Vegas on Sunday. After the Mustangs won the doubles point, they took four singles matches including three in straight sets.

SMU took the early lead with the win in doubles. At No. 2 Hristina Dishkova and Holly Verner won 8-2 while Edyta Cieplucha and Yana Erkeeva paired for a 9-7 win at No. 3.

In singles, SMU won at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5. On the top line, Edyta Cieplucha improved to 21-11 on the year with a 6-2, 6-1 sweep. No. 111 ranked Aleksandra Malyarchikova (19-5) followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. In the No. 4 position, Elena Fayner (10-10) also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. In the fifth spot, Hristina Dishkova (21-8) went three sets for the 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 triumph.

The Mustangs visit No. 22 Texas next Sunday at 1 p.m.
