SMU’s Caroline Young Named C-USA Offensive Player Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (SMU) – SMU sophomore Caroline Young was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Mustangs with 53 kills in three matches at the TCU Nike Invitational, conference officials announced Monday.

Young, a native of Brenham, Texas, recorded career-highs with 23 kills and 18 digs for her first double-double in a four-set match against Army, and led the Mustangs to their second sweep of the season with 18 kills in a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The outside hitter, who was named to the C-USA All-Freshman team last season, climbed to fifth in the conference with 3.81 kills per set after averaging 5.30 in the last three matches. She had eight kills in the third set against TAMU-CC, and also had five kills and three aces in the 26-24 first-set win over the Islanders.

The Mustangs host Wichita State in the first round of the SMU Classic in Moody Coliseum Thursday at 7 p.m. in their home opener. SMU will also play Texas State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Auburn on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the SMU Classic, which runs Sept. 6-8.
