SMU’s Davis Named C-USA Defensive Player Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (C-USA/SMU) – SMU linebacker Ja’Gared Davis has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

Davis was all over the field for the Mustangs in Saturday’s 28-17 win over UTEP, finishing with a mind-boggling stat line – eight tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for-loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception, three pass break-ups and one touchdown. Davis sealed the win for SMU with his TD at 2:39 of the 4th quarter, forcing a fumble and recovering the ball in the end zone for a score on the play.

Davis shares this week’s award with Marshall’s George Carpenter, who recorded a game-high 13 tackles in the Herd’s 26-20 win over Southern Miss. Davis also posted two tackles for-loss, including one sack, forced one fumble and recovered two fumbles.

Davis and his Mustang teammates return to Ford Stadium Saturday night, Sept. 17, when they host Northwestern State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. For tickets, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
