SMU’s Du Toit repeats as C-USA Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas (C-USA/SMU) — SMU track athlete Simone Du Toit was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. The honor is the Johannesburg, South Africa native’s second this season.

Having already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the shot put event, du Toit bested her previous qualifying mark of 17.45m (57-3”) and threw for 17.49m (57-4.75”) at the Houston Indoor Invitational. The toss easily cleared the NCAA automatic qualifier of 16.90m (55-5.5”). Du Toit’s effort was the top mark in the nation over the weekend and currently stands as the second-longest throw of any competitor in the country this season.

Du Toit and the Mustangs return to action on Feb. 5 at the Houston All-Comers event.
