PROVIDENCE, R.I. (American/SMU) – SMU men’s soccer player Benjamin Joseph has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Mustangs’ 2-0 win over Oral Roberts on Friday, league officials announced Monday.

Joseph scored the match winner, which was also his first career tally, in the 43rd minute to lift SMU over the Golden Eagles to move the Mustangs to 3-3 in 2014.

The Austin, Texas, native has played in five matches for the Ponies this season and has totaled six shots.

SMU’s second goal of the match came from American weekly honor roll selection Jordan Cano. It was also Cano’s first collegiate score.

Joseph, Cano and the Mustangs are back in action on Friday when they open conference play by hosting Tulsa at Westcott Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT with live stats and video available at SMUMustangs.com.
