SMU’s Nicol Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women’s swimmer Rachel Nicol has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week after winning the 200-meter breaststroke at the Austin Grand Prix and sweeping the breaststroke events during a dual meet against Houston and North Texas.

Nicol won the 200-meter breaststroke last weekend at the Austin Grand Prix. The All-American placed first in the event, clocking in with a time of 2:28.79. Nicol earned runner-up honors in the 100-meter breaststroke with a mark of 1:09.81. The sophomore also had a pair of victories in the breaststroke events to lead the Mustangs to wins over Houston, 199-95, and North Texas, 180-118, in a double dual meet Wednesday. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Nicol clocked in at 1:04.01, then swam the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.75. She also placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.84) and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:44.24.

This is the first Swimmer of the Week award of the season for Nicol and the second of her career.

The Mustangs host rival TCU at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Perkins Natatorium.
