SMU’s Rangelova Named C-USA Swimmer Of The Week

IRVING, Texas – SMU swimmer Nina Rangelova has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week after winning three individual events and helping the 200-yard freestyle relay team take gold (1:36.10) during the Mustangs’ season-opening 156-106 win over Rice.

Rangelova finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.96), the 100-yard freestyle (51.23) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.28). Rangelova posted the top C-USA time in each of her individual events and marks that rank among the nation’s Top 25 in each event. Her times in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles were Rice Competition Pool records.

This is the first Swimmer of the Week honor for Rangelova.

The Mustangs host the annual SMU Classic on Oct. 21-22 in Perkins Natatorium at 6:30 p.m. The six-team meet features swim powerhouses No. 7 Florida, No. 40 Louisville, No. 6 Texas, No. 13 Virginia and No. 11 Wisconsin.
