IRVING, Texas (SMU) – SMU swimmer Therese Svendsen has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week after automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard backstroke and posting NCAA B standards in five events at the Cougar Classic this past weekend.

Svendsen automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships, to be held in March after, by winning the 100-yard backstroke in an NCAA A-qualifying time of 52.23 on day two of the Cougar Classic. The senior also earned top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.52) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.51); both times were NCAA B standards. All three marks were the fastest time by a Conference USA swimmer this season.

This is Svendsen’s second Swimmer of the Week award this season and the fourth of her career.
