Stars Beat Capitals

The Dallas Stars beat the Washington Capitals 4-2 and take four out of five on the road trip as they try and make a late playoff push. They used their power to help them win as they scored three power play goals at the Verizon Center on Friday, their sixth consecutive victory over a Metropolitan Division. Shawn Horcoff, Colton Sceviour, Tyler Seguin scored for Dallas (32-27-10), which one its third game in a row. Goalie Kari Lehtonen made 18 saves.

Horcoff scored a power-play goal at 3:25 of the first period to give Dallas a 1-0 lead. Ales Hemsky’s drop pass set up the goal, which deflected past Braden Holtby. It was Horcoff’s 10th goal of the season. Curtis Glencross tied the game 1-1 at 11:24 of the first period. Lehtonen blocked Glencross’ initial backhand try but Glencross scored on the rebound for his 12th goal of the season.

Sceviour sent a snap shot past three Washington defensemen to give Dallas a 2-1 lead with 3:05 left in the period. That was Sceviour’s seventh goal of the season. Then Tyler Seguin scored Dallas’ second power play of the season at 7:21 of the second period. The goal was his 32nd of the season and 10th on the power play, tying him for eighth in the NHL.

A missed shorthanded chance by Washington’s Eric Fehr led to Fiddler’s 12th goal of the season. Hemsky led the 2-on-1 into Washington’s zone and fed Fiddler, who scored on a wrist shot at 14:05 of the second. Then Evgeny Kuznetzov scored his seventh goal of the season with 1:26 left in the third period.

The Stars next game is when they face against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday for a 5pm start.
