Dallas forward Ryan Garbutt was suspended for three games for slew-footing Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien during the Stars’ 5-2 loss on Tuesday night, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Thursday.

Garbutt was whistled for a tripping minor at 12:17 of the third period. According to terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the suspension will cost him $65,853.66.

With the Jets on a power play, Byfuglien and Garbutt went for a loose puck and Garbutt kicked Byfuglien’s legs out from under him. Byfuglien was not injured.

Garbutt has drawn two suspensions and been fined once in the past 13 months. He was suspended for two games after kneeing Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall two weeks ago.
