The Dallas Stars fell in a shootout to the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 Friday night at the American Airlines Center.   Dallas is 2-0-1 in shootout games this season. The shootout loss was the Stars’ first in overtime/shootout – the last NHL team of 30 to lose in extra time this season.

Dallas got on the board first with a wrist shot by Eric Nystrom, with an assist by Michael Ryder and Jamie Benn.  Toronto answered with 2 goals in the first period.  Nystrom scored again in the 2nd period to tie the game.  Radek Dvorak and Jamie Benn were credited with assists.  Eric Nystrom’s two goals mark his third career multi-goal effort. Nystrom has a three-game point streak (2 goals, 2 assists). He has 7 goals in 17 games with the Stars. The last time Nystrom scored two goals in a game was Oct. 6, 2009, against the Montreal Canadiens. All of his multi-goal games have come against teams from Canada.

Toronto regained the lead in the 3rd period before Dvorak hit a wrist shot, assisted by Mike Ribeiro and Philip Larsen to send the game into overtime.  After no scoring in the overtime period, the game switched to a shootout.  The first 4 shooters failed to score before Toronto’s Joffrey Lupul hit the game-winner.

The Stars play the Coyotes tonight in Phoenix.
