Stars season ends in Minnesota

The Dallas Stars were one period away from the playoffs today against the Minnesota Wild.  Unfortunately, the Wild did all the scoring in the 3rd period and ended the Dallas season with a 5-3 Minnesota victory.

Going into the game, the Stars knew that the Chicago Blackhawks lost earlier, meaning a Dallas victory would move the Stars past Chicago for the 8th and final playoff spot.   Dallas had won 4 straight games to get this chance, today they ran out of steam.

Minnesota opened the scoring, but the Stars came back to lead at the end of the first period on goals by Brad Richards and Brenden Morrow.

The Wild scored twice in the 2nd period before Alex Goligoski’s power-play goal tied the game going into the 3rd period.

Former Stars player Antti Miettinen put Minnesota in the lead early in the 3rd, then the Wild sealed the game with an empty net goal in the final minute.

Dallas finishes the season 42-29-11.
