Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced that the club has signed forward Lane MacDermid and forward Luke Gazdic, each to a one year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MacDermid, 23, was acquired by Dallas from the Boston Bruins along with forward Cody Payne and a first-round pick in this year’s Draft (29th overall, Jason Dickinson) in exchange for forward Jaromir Jagr on April 2, 2013. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward skated in six games for Dallas during the 2012-13 season, posting two goals, nine penalty minutes and three shots. He scored his first career NHL goal on April 3 against the Anaheim Ducks, 31 years to the date that Lane’s father, Paul MacDermid, scored his first NHL goal. The two became the second father-son tandem in NHL history to each record their first career goals on the same day, joining Peanuts and Gerry O’Flaherty, who accomplished the feat on Nov. 3, 1940 and 1972.

The native of Hartford, Conn., skated in 37 contests for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, recording six points (4G-2A), including two shorthanded tallies and 82 penalty minutes. MacDermid was Boston’s fourth round selection (112th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Gazdic, 23, registered 11 points (4G-7A) and 80 penalty minutes in 59 regular season contests with the Texas Stars last season. The 6-foot-3 forward tallied a season-high two assists and recorded a +2 plus/minus rating on Jan. 18 at Chicago. The Toronto, Ontario native has skated in 256 career AHL games, posting 447 penalty minutes and 55 points (27G-28A) in four seasons with Texas. Gazdic was Dallas’ sixth round selection (172nd overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
