Stars win opener in New Jersey

The Dallas Stars opened the season with a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Loui Erikkson made 2 goals, Brad Richards and Captain Brenden Morrow also scored for the Stars.  Erikkson’s second goal was in the game-winner in overtime.

Goalie Kari Lehtonen turned away 27 shots, half of them coming in the 3rd period.

The Stars are starting the season without mainstay Mike Modano, Dallas’ all-time leading scorer.  They have high hopes for a young team that has missed the playoffs the last 2 years.  With younger players blended with veterans such as Brenden Morrow, the Stars hope to have the right combination to return to the Stanley Cup finals.

Dallas plays Saturday in Long Island.
