TCU Accepts Bid To Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU has accepted an invitation to play in the Dec. 29 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl against Michigan State.
Kickoff will be at 8:15 p.m. (MST) from Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., with the game televised on ESPN.
TCU, making a school-record eighth straight bowl appearance, is one of just 10 programs nationally to play in a bowl game in 14 of the last 15 seasons. The Horned Frogs are one of just three teams (Florida, Utah) to win at least six bowl games in the last seven campaigns.
The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl will mark the 29th bowl appearance in TCU’s history. The Horned Frogs are 13-14-1 in bowl games. TCU is 9-4 in bowls with head coach Gary Patterson on its coaching staff and 7-4 with him as head coach. Prior to Patterson’s arrival on campus in 1998, the Horned Frogs had just four bowl wins in their history.
TCU (7-5) and Michigan State (6-6) will be meeting for just the second time on the gridiron and the first since 1953, when the Spartans took a 26-19 decision in East Lansing, Mich.
TCU will be facing a Big Ten opponent for the first time since a 21-19 victory over Wisconsin in
the 2011 Rose Bowl. Combined with victories over Northwestern in 2002 and 2004, TCU is 3-0 against Big Ten teams under Patterson.
The Horned Frogs will play in Arizona for the first time since its 2010 Fiesta Bowl appearance versus Boise State. TCU will be at Sun Devil Stadium for the first time since facing Arizona State in 1974.
TCU is one of the youngest teams in the nation, tying for the national lead in most true freshmen (16) and total freshmen (28) seeing action this season. Nearly 70 percent of players receiving playing time in 2012 are either freshmen or sophomores. The Horned Frogs’ Big 12-leading defensive unit has just one senior on its depth chart.
