TCU Accepts CBI Bid

FORT WORTH – The TCU men’s basketball team has received one of 16 bids to the 2012 College Basketball Invitational presented by Zebra Pen, the organization announced Sunday evening. The Horned Frogs will play host to Milwaukee in the first round on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The selection will mark TCU’s first postseason tournament appearance since advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2005 NIT. The Frogs posted a 17-14 overall record this season and finished fifth in the Mountain West with a 7-7 league mark. Among the team’s accomplishments were a 13-3 home record and victories over five teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in Virginia, Lamar, Colorado State, UNLV and New Mexico.

Milwaukee posted a 20-13 overall record this season and tied for third place in the Horizon League regular-season standings with an 11-7 conference mark. The Panthers feature four players who average double figures in scoring, including senior forward Tony Meier, who leads the team at 11.0 points per game. Junior guard Kaylon Williams is among the nation’s top assist men, ranking ninth overall (6.4 apg).

Tickets for Tuesday’s TCU-Milwaukee matchup will be available for purchase through the TCU Athletics Ticket Office. The winner of the contest will face the winner of the first-round contest between Western Illinois and Oregon State.

The fifth annual CBI presented by Zebra Pen will consist of 16 teams vying for a

national championship. Two of the eight first round games will be held on Tuesday, March 13 with the remaining contests being played on Wednesday, March 14. The quarterfinal round will take place on Monday, March 19 with semifinal round games being played on Wednesday, March 21.

A uniquefeature of the CBI presented by Zebra Pen is its best-of-three championshipseries, which begins on Monday, March 26 and continues on Wednesday, March 28. Should a third game be necessary, it will be played on Friday, March 30.

Every game of the 2012 CBI presented by Zebra Pen will be played on campus, providing fans the opportunity to follow and support their team.
