CORVALLIS, Ore.—Junior guard/forward Garlon Green led the Horned Frogs with 21 points, but Oregon State posted a blistering performance from the field while handing TCU a 101-81 loss Monday in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 College Basketball Invitational at the Beavers’ Gill Coliseum.

The setback put an end to TCU’s 2011-12 season, as the Frogs finished with an 18-15 overall record. The campaign marked the first winning season for the program since 2004-05, while the squad finished withfour more victories than in any season since that year.

Oregon State led the game from start to finish, breaking the 100-point barrier against TCU while shooting an unthinkable 65.0 percent from the floor for the game (39-of-60). The shooting rate marked the fifth-best single-game performance ever against the Frogs. The Beavers raced to a 19-point lead at halftime, and TCU was unable to cut the deficit to lower than 13 points the remainder of the way.

Green recorded one of the top offensive nights of his career in the loss, recording his third 20-point performance as a Frog. He made 7-of-12 field-goal attempts, including a pair of 3-pointers, and 5-of-6 free throws while pulling down six rebounds.

Also reaching double figures for TCU were freshman guard Kyan Anderson (16 points) and senior guards J.R. Cadot (15 points) and HankThorns (11 points). Cadot recorded a team-high eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end while leading to 16 offensive boards on the night. Anderson recorded five steals, which equaled the most in a game this season for a Frog.

Guard Jared Cunningham led Oregon State’s offensive attack by scoring a game-high 27 points while

hitting 10-of-12 shots from the floor overall, including both of his 3-point attempts. Center Angus Brandt also broke the 20-point barrier with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while forward Devon Collier added 19 on a 9-of-10 showing from the field. Forward Joe Burton chipped in 10 points and a team-high five assists. Forward Eric Moreland pulled down a gam-high 10 rebounds.

OSU jumped on top of TCU from the opening tip, scoring the first six points while holding the Frogs scoreless for nearly three-and-a-half minutes to start the game. TCU got on the board with a pair of 3-poitners by senior forward Craig Williams and Thorns, but the squad was unable to slow down the Beavers.

OSU pushed its lead to 13 points with a 12-2 run following Thorns’ trey. A 7-3 Frog spurt capped by back-to-back buckets from Green and Anderson cut the deficit back to single digits, but the Beavers continued to attack on the offensive end of the court. OSU outscored the Frogs by a 23-14 margin in the final 7:48 of the half to carry a 53-34 advantage into the break. The lead actually stretched to as large as 25 points before Green and Anderson sank treys on consecutive possessions for TCU prior to intermission.

The Beavers could do little wrong with the basketball in the first half, making 22-of-32 field-goal attempts (68.8 percent), including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. The Frogs struggled to keep pace, making only 12-of-39 shots (30.8 percent), although they did drill six 3-pointers in the period.

TCU cut a big chunk out of the Beaver lead midway through the second half with the help of a 14-5 run that saw Anderson score the Frogs’ final seven points. The run coincided with TCU’s most successful defensive stretch of the night, as OSU made only two field goals in a period of nearly four minutes. Anderson finished the run by drilling a 3-pointer with 11:01 remaining to bring the Frogs to within 13 points, 73-60.

Oregon State responded by leaning on Cunningham and Brandt to put the Frogs away. Cunningham scored nine points in just over three minutes before Brandt totaled eight on back-to-back 3’s and a dunk that pushed the Beaver advantage back to 25 points with 2:36 left in the contest.
