Brandon Parrish scored eight straight points to spark a 16-2 run to start the game and TCU went on to defeat Bradley 74-42 on Wednesday night at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Parrish, who averaged 6.5 points heading into the game, came off the bench in the first half to lead all scorers with nine points as TCU (11-1) took control early and maintained a double-digit lead throughout.
Parrish went scoreless in the second half, but he already had accomplished his job.
Desmond Bane scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Horned Frogs. Kenrich Williams toyed with a double-double, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds, including six on the offensive boards.
Donte Thomas, Antoine Pittman and Koch Bar each scored eight points to lead Bradley (5-8). Darrel Brown, the Braves’ leading scorer coming in, was held to three points on 1-of-6 shooting from the field.
It took a while before both offenses got untracked — Bradley’s took a bit longer than TCU’s. Vladimir Broadziansky’s layup nearly two minutes into the game put TCU up 2-0. Nearly two minutes later, Luuk van Bree’s putback layup tied the score at 2.
That’s when the Horned Frogs went to work and opened a 20-7 lead in the next seven-plus minutes.
The Braves went on a 5-0 spurt — Brown hit a 3-pointer, his only made field goal of the night, and Pittman made a layup — to pull with eight at 20-12, forcing the Horned Frogs to call a timeout.
After JoJo McGlaston’s jumper made the score 20-14, the Horned Frogs scored eight straight to double the Braves at 28-14.
Thomas’ dunk with 3:01 left stopped the bleeding, but the damage had been done and Bradley was doomed.
The Braves committed 12 first-half turnovers and the Horned Frogs dominated the boards, outrebounding Bradley 23-15, including 13 offensive rebounds.
