TCU Defeats Texas

TCU forward Chris Washburn hit the go-ahead jumper and made the clinching block in the Horned Frogs’ 58-57 win over Texas on Saturday at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

In a back-and-forth Big 12 battle that came down to the wire, Washburn hit a jumper with a 1:12 left to play that put the Horned Frogs up by one.

Trailing by one with 10 seconds to play, Texas had one last possession, but guard Conner Lammert’s layup attempt was blocked by Washburn, securing the Horned Frogs’ first win over Texas in the last 10 meetings.

TCU guard Brandon Parrish had 15 points, and Washburn finished with 14 for the Frogs (9-6, 1-2 Big 12).

TCU led for the majority of the first half, but could not separate itself from the Longhorns. The Horned Frogs led 34-32 at halftime.

The Longhorns opened the second half with an 8-2 run to take the lead. A 3-pointer from guard Eric Davis Jr. put Texas up 48-44 with 11:47 to play.

TCU wouldn’t go away and tied the score 52-52 on a free throw from Karviar Shepherd with 5:15 to play. A driving layup by guard Chauncey Collins gave the Frogs a 56-54 lead with 2:56 left in the second half.

Texas guard Javan Felix led the Longhorns with 16 points, and guard Isaiah Taylor finished with 13 points for the Longhorns (9-6, 1-2 Big 12).
